Learning about Tech

There is no denying that technology has changed education as we have know it, instead of ignoring it, why not embrace it? As we have seen, technology has so many uses inside the classroom as well as outside the classroom. With so many different types of online collaboration software we are now able to connect with others across the globe as well as have access to tons of information with just the click of the mouse. Google has many different apps that allows for group collaboration on documents, presentations, etc. Software like snag it makes it easy for teachers to give demonstrations on how to use certain technologies or websites. Sharing pictures and stories each other has become a breeze.

Some examples of online collaboration are websites like www.globe.gov and www.iearn.org where students are able to work together to solve real problems, collect data, and explore topics together. Programs like these also offer professional development programs for teachers. Workshops help teachers gain the skills they need to instigate and participate in the online collaborations.

Overall, the Internet has made it so tons and tons of information is at our fingertips. We can research anything and find answers, which I think can sometimes make using tech daunting, but when using it as a tool for teaching we can accomplish so much more.

Technology can also help students with varying learning styles. What works for one child may not work for another, and technology help modify lessons for those who need something else.

Here is an interesting article about how technology has impacted education, and the benefits from using technology in the classroom.

  1. Hi Joelle, I too agree that we need to just embrace the fact that technology is going to be used in schools. I personally find most of the google apps to be very beneficial for students. They are easy to navigate, save, and accessible for students.

  2. Hi Joelle,
I personally loved the idea of students working together especially when it involves social and global problems. When my team and I visited this globe.gov website, I quickly became intrigued by it because I found it to be an amazing opportunity for students to learn topics like, way of living, poverty, and wealth among many other issues that surround living in other parts of the world. I truly believe it would help unite students in a different level and create a better world for the future, one that perhaps could be less divisive.
